2 Reasons To Use Horse Breeding Supplements

If you are trying to breed your horses, you want to make sure that they are as healthy as possible before anything happens. The healthier your horses before you start breeding them, the more likely it is that you are going to have a successful outcome and a healthy foal at the other end of the pregnancy. It doesn't matter if you have a mare or a stallion, making sure that they are healthy is important. One way that you can do that is to use supplements that are designed for equine breeding.

Better Sperm

Giving a stallion breeding supplements can help give them better sperm. That means that there are both going to be more sperm and the sperm will be of better quality. The more and stronger the sperm the stallion produces, the more likely the chances that the mare will get pregnant. For example, if the horse were to only produce a small amount of semen with a sperm count on the low side of average, it isn't as likely that one of those sperm will reach an egg. It will also take longer to produce enough semen for artificial insemination. On the other hand, supplements can cause the horse to produce larger amounts of semen with a higher sperm count.

Better Foal Development

Another thing that breeding supplements can do is to help with the foal development after the mare has caught. Supplements for pregnant mares generally contain things like calcium and phosphorus. These things help the mare to be healthier and stronger, but they can also help the foal develop a better and stronger bone structure. Without the additional calcium, the foal would have to take it from the mare's body, which can cause the mare to have slightly weaker bones during her pregnancy and for her to not be as healthy. The additional calcium, therefore, has a really good benefit for everyone involved. The supplements may also include honey, which may seem like an odd inclusion, except for the fact that honey can help to boost a mare's energy levels and help to increase her circulatory system, making her a better candidate for pregnancy and letting her be able to deal with the pregnancy better.

If you are trying to breed horses, you want to make sure that you are doing everything that you can to end up with a healthy stallion, mare, and foal. Breeding supplements can help with that. Look for equine supplements for breeders before you start.
